presenting an interdisciplinary team

Our team is made up of the very people who wrote many of the current education rules, regulations and statutes, and includes leaders in the forefront of charter school and special education laws.

We provide counsel in every phase of an institution's development and growth and have guided numerous charter schools from idea to reality. Buckley King was instrumental in formulating and structuring Ohio’s charter school law and pioneered a novel financing structure in a multimillion dollar tax-exempt bond transaction by utilizing Lease Revenue Bonds.

Utilizing our board-certified specialists in labor and employment law, Buckley King frequently works with institutions to identify risks before they become problems and offers proactive advice on best practices in employment matters. Our attorneys conduct training programs on sexual harassment and anti-discrimination for faculty and administrators, and consult on FLSA compliance respecting proper classification of exempt and non-exempt employees, on matters related to the Fair Housing Act and Americans with Disabilities Act, and compliance related to individuals with disabilities.

The firm has also represented institutions in dispute resolution from First Amendment cases involving student newspapers to faculty discipline and discrimination, and from sexual assaults to wrongful death actions. Our litigation team provides practical and clear guidance and is cognizant of the need to preserve and manage institutional reputation and relationships, and protects the institution’s position in that regard.
